About Marabou
Marabou is Sweden's flagship milk-chocolate brand, founded in 1916 in Sundbyberg outside Stockholm by Henning Throne-Holst. The original Marabou Mjölkchoklad, "Marabou Milk Chocolate", has been a Swedish household reference for over a century and remains the country's most-sold chocolate bar alongside Cloetta's Kexchoklad.
Marabou was founded by Henning Throne-Holst in 1916 in Sundbyberg, just outside Stockholm. The Sundbyberg factory has been producing Marabou Mjölkchoklad continuously since the brand's earliest years, the same site that still operates today, even as ownership has consolidated globally.
The brand was acquired by Kraft Foods in 1993 and is now part of Mondelēz International, the global confectionery group. Production stayed in Sweden, and Marabou retains its identity as a distinctly Swedish chocolate brand despite the multinational parent. Beyond the original bar, the range includes Marabou Daim (with crunchy almond toffee), Schweizernöt, Japp, Mjölkchoklad with sea salt and almond, and dozens of seasonal variants.
For wholesale buyers, Marabou is the highest-recognition Swedish chocolate brand and one of the easiest entry points into Nordic confectionery for an American audience.
