About Haribo / MAOAM
Haribo is a German confectionery company founded in 1920 in Bonn by Hans Riegel, the name combines HAns RIegel BOnn. MAOAM is Haribo's chewy-candy sub-brand, founded separately in 1930 by Edmund Münster and acquired by Haribo in 1986; the Happy Chews and MAOAM Stripes lines stocked on this site come from this Haribo-owned product family.
Hans Riegel founded Haribo in Bonn in 1920, and the company has grown into the world's most-recognized gummy candy maker, Goldbears alone sell in dozens of formats across more than 100 markets. Haribo remains family-owned and continues to be headquartered in Bonn, Germany.
MAOAM was founded in 1930 by Edmund Münster as a separate German chewy-candy maker, then acquired by Haribo in 1986. The MAOAM line, Stripes, Pinballs, Kracher, and the Happy Chews assortments, is distinct from the gelatin-set Haribo gummies: the MAOAM texture is a dense, taffy-like chew designed for slow eating.
For US wholesale buyers, the Haribo brand has broad mainstream distribution domestically, but the MAOAM-branded products, chewy bars, sour-stripe packs, Happy Chews, are typically only available through European specialty importers like ours.

Frequently asked about Haribo / MAOAM
What is MAOAM candy?
MAOAM (sometimes spelled Moam) is Haribo's chewy-candy sub-brand. The line includes Stripes, Pinballs, Kracher, and Happy Chews, soft, taffy-textured fruit chews that are distinct from Haribo's gelatin-set gummies. MAOAM was founded in 1930 in Germany and acquired by Haribo in 1986.
Is MAOAM made by Haribo?
Yes. MAOAM was an independent German chewy-candy company founded by Edmund Münster in 1930, and was acquired by Haribo in 1986. It is now Haribo's main chewy-candy line, produced at Haribo-owned facilities in Germany.
What's the difference between Haribo and MAOAM?
Haribo's classic gummies (Goldbears, etc.) use a gelatin-based set that gives them a bouncy, slightly resistant chew. MAOAM products use a denser, taffy-style chew, softer, longer-lasting in the mouth, often individually wrapped and with sour-coated variants.
Are MAOAM products vegan?
Most MAOAM products contain gelatin and are not vegan. Always verify the printed ingredient label on the case you receive, especially since Haribo and MAOAM formulations vary by market and have been updated periodically.
