Turkish Pepper: The Salmiak Bomb
Turkish Pepper is the hard salmiak candy with a hot, salty powder center that salmiak lovers chase. Here is what it is and how to handle it.

Turkish Pepper (Tyrkisk Peber) is a hard salmiak candy with a powdery, intensely salty and slightly spicy center. Made by Fazer, it is one of the strongest mainstream salmiak experiences: a hard shell that gives way to a sharp ammonium-chloride punch. It is beloved across the Nordics and brutal for beginners.
What is Turkish Pepper?
A hard-boiled salmiak candy with a hollow, powder-filled center. The powder is where the real salt lives, so the flavor escalates as you eat it.
How strong is it?
Strong. It sits at the intense end of the salmiak scale, in the same territory as Djungelvral. This is not a beginner candy.
How to handle it
Build up first. Start with milder salty licorice and our how-to-eat-salmiak guide, then graduate to Turkish Pepper. Add a couple of pieces to a pick-and-mix bag once you are ready.
