Quick answer

Buy bulk gummy candy by the case in large formats (roughly 2 to 9 lb per case) and spread the buy across shapes and textures rather than flavors. Skulls, fish, pacifiers and XL pieces each sell differently. Check gelatin status per SKU, price by the pound, and reorder into whatever empties fastest.

Gummy is the engine of almost every candy set we have ever built. We ran candy shops in Sweden before we started importing, and the gummy bins were the ones we refilled twice a week. Here is how to buy the category by the case without ending up with six versions of the same thing.

Why gummy anchors a bulk candy program

Three reasons gummy carries more weight than its shelf space suggests.

It travels well. Gummy holds its shape through freight and through a busy self-serve bin far better than chocolate, which limits how you can ship and merchandise in warm months.

It photographs. Bright, sculptural pieces are what make a candy wall look like a destination rather than a shelf.

It is easy to make dietary claims about, as long as you have accurate data. A meaningful share of European gummy is made without gelatin, which opens the category to shoppers who would otherwise skip it. That only works if you label per SKU rather than by vibe, which we come back to below.

For the cultural and product background on the Swedish side of the category, see Swedish gummy candy explained.

Bulk gummy formats you will meet by the case

Skulls

The skull is the signature Swedish gummy shape and the single fastest-moving format we ship. Most skulls pair a foam (skum) base with a gummy or chew top, which gives a texture contrast you do not get from a plain gummy. Bubs Cola Skulls and Bubs Lemon/Raspberry Skulls from BUBS are gelatin-free and vegan, which makes them unusually easy to sell into a mixed crowd.

Fish

Fish shapes are the shape American shoppers already recognize, which makes them a low-friction entry point into a Swedish set. Sour Swedish Fish is gelatin-free, and Pastel Fish is gelatin-free and gives the wall a softer color block next to the loud sours.

Pacifiers

Sura nappar (sour pacifiers) are unmistakably Scandinavian and do a lot of merchandising work because nobody in a US shop has seen them before. Sura Colanappar Sour Cola Pacifiers and Sura Melonnappar Sour Melon Pacifiers are gelatin-free and contain wheat/gluten.

Discs and rings

Embossed discs are the workhorse of a Swedish wall: dense, chewy, and cheap per pound in a big case. The S-Marke discs come in 8.81 lb cases, including S Marke Watermelon, which is gelatin-free and contains wheat/gluten. Rings add a different silhouette: Franssons Fizzy Rings from Franssons are gelatin-free.

XL pieces

Oversized gummies are a merchandising trick as much as a product. One big piece in a bin makes the whole wall look more interesting, and the pieces sell on novelty. Vidal XL Sour Cola and Vidal XL Strawberry Cream from Vidal both contain gelatin and contain wheat/gluten, so label those bins carefully.

Fruit gummies and mixes

Mixed-shape bags cover the "something for everyone" slot. Bulgari Fruits from Bulgari contains gelatin. Grahns Rasberry Twins from Grahns are gelatin-free and give you a two-tone piece that stands out in a bin.

How to read a bulk gummy case

Case weights in imported candy are metric underneath, which is why you see numbers like 2.2 lb, 4.41 lb, 6.6 lb, and 8.81 lb rather than round pounds. Three habits keep the buying honest.

Divide to cost per pound. Always. A 6.6 lb case at a higher sticker frequently beats a 2.2 lb case at a lower one, and per-pound is the number your retail price is built on anyway.

Match case size to bin turnover. A big case is only cheaper if you sell through it while it is still bright and fresh. For a new SKU you are testing, a 2.2 lb case is the smarter buy even at a worse per-pound rate. Move up to the 6 to 9 lb cases once a bin proves itself.

Watch the piece count, not just the weight. Two cases of the same weight can hold very different piece counts. XL pieces feel generous in a bag and empty a bin quickly, which is good for theater and harder on your per-pound margin.

What actually moves in pick-and-mix

After years of watching bins, the pattern is consistent. Sour skulls empty first. Recognizable shapes (fish, pacifiers, rings) outsell abstract blobs. Bright colors outsell muted ones, and faded stock stops selling entirely, so rotate first in, first out.

Balance a gummy wall across four axes rather than by flavor: shape, sourness, texture (foam, chew, dense gummy), and color. Six bins that cover four textures beat twelve bins of near-identical fruit gummies. The mechanics of running the wall, from bin choice to shrinkage, are in how to run a profitable pick-and-mix.

Gelatin, gluten and honest bin labels

This is the part retailers get burned on. Gummy dietary status is per SKU, not per brand and not per category. Some of what we carry is gelatin-free and vegan, some contains gelatin, and several gelatin-free lines contain wheat/gluten because of the starch or glaze used.

Do not generalize on a bin label. Copy the flags from the product page onto the bin, item by item. Our BUBS lines are gelatin-free and vegan. The S-Marke discs and the pacifier lines are gelatin-free but contain wheat/gluten. The Matthijs lines are gelatin-free and flagged gluten-free, halal, vegan and vegetarian. Franssons foam products and the Vidal XL sours contain gelatin. Getting this right is not just compliance hygiene, it is a sales tool: shoppers who ask about gelatin buy more when you can answer instantly.

Pricing bulk gummy for retail

Work from landed cost per pound, set one blended per-pound price across the wall, then check the blend still profits on your most expensive case. Because we ship DDP with duties and US labels handled from our Santa Fe Springs, California warehouse, the case price you see is the landed cost, with no clearance surprises to fold in. The full margin walkthrough is in Swedish candy profit margins.

Frequently asked questions

What case sizes does bulk gummy candy come in?+

Imported gummy cases usually run from about 2.2 lb up to roughly 8.8 lb, because the underlying cases are metric (1 kg, 2 kg, 3 kg, 4 kg). Compare cost per pound rather than cost per case.

Which bulk gummy candy sells best in a pick-and-mix?+

Sour skulls first, then recognizable shapes like fish, pacifiers and rings. Bright colors outsell muted ones. Balance the wall across shape, sourness, texture and color rather than stocking many similar fruit flavors.

Is bulk gummy candy gelatin-free?+

Some is and some is not, and it varies by SKU. Our BUBS lines are gelatin-free and vegan, while products such as Franssons foam candy and the Vidal XL sours contain gelatin. Always check the individual product page and copy the exact flags onto your bin label.

Is gelatin-free gummy candy also gluten-free?+

Not automatically. Several gelatin-free lines we carry, including the S-Marke discs and the sour pacifiers, contain wheat/gluten. Treat the two claims as separate and label them separately.

Is there a minimum order for bulk gummy candy?+

Not with us. You order by the case, mix and match across brands, with no order minimum, which makes it easy to test several formats before committing to the winners.
