Valentine's is a short, intense season: the set goes up in late January and clears within days of February 14. Order in early winter, keep the assortment tight around red, pink, and berry, and lean on single bags and small pre-weighed formats that shoppers can hand over as a gift.

Valentine's behaves differently from every other candy peak
Most seasonal candy planning assumes a long ramp. Christmas builds for six weeks. Halloween builds for three. Valentine's does not build at all. It is close to a step function: nothing, then a sharp spike in the first two weeks of February, then it is over by the morning of February 15.
That shape has three consequences for a buyer.
First, being late is fatal in a way it is not at Christmas. A Christmas restock that lands on December 18 still sells. A Valentine's restock that lands on February 13 sells for one day.
Second, heavily themed packaging becomes a markdown overnight. Red foil hearts on February 15 are dead stock. Build the set out of plain bulk candy in the right colors instead, because a pink strawberry gummy is still a pink strawberry gummy on February 20.
Third, the basket is small and the intent is high. Valentine's shoppers are not filling a bin for a party. They are buying one thing to give to one person, often as an add-on at the register. That points your assortment toward gift formats, not toward volume for its own sake.

When to order
Place the buy in early winter, in December or the first days of January, so cases land while you are still doing your post-holiday reset. Practically:
- Aim to have the set merchandised by the last week of January. Shoppers start looking earlier than most retailers expect, and an empty February 1 display is a week of lost sales.
