Bulk Easter Candy: A Retailer's Buying Guide
How to buy bulk Easter candy: lead times, pastel spring assortments, basket fillers, and import-direct wholesale cases shipped to US and Canada retailers.

We ran candy shops in Sweden before we started importing, and Easter was one of the two or three weeks a year when the pick-and-mix wall genuinely emptied. This is a retailer's guide to buying that season: when to place the order, what to put in the bins, and how much of it you actually need.
Why Easter is a bulk candy season, not a gift season
Halloween and Christmas get the attention, but Easter behaves differently from both. Halloween is one enormous night of volume. Christmas is a long gifting runway. Easter is a two-week window where shoppers buy candy by weight to fill something: a basket, a plastic egg, a hunt, a classroom bag, a brunch table.
That "fill something" instinct is the commercial logic. Shoppers want enough pieces, in enough colors, to make a container look full. If your set is deep on bulk formats and shallow on tiny gift boxes, you are pointed the right way.
Sweden does the same thing with a specific twist. The Swedish Easter tradition is the påskägg, a decorated cardboard egg the buyer fills themselves with loose pick-and-mix candy. Lead time: order in late winter
Easter moves on the calendar, which is the single biggest planning trap. It can fall in late March or well into April depending on the year, so "I ordered the same week as last year" is not a plan. Work backwards from the date instead.
- Place the buy in late winter. You want cases on your shelf a good two to three weeks before Easter Sunday, because the selling window opens as soon as shoppers start assembling baskets, not on the weekend itself.
- Build in a restock. Easter's demand curve is short and steep. If you sell out five days early, you do not get that revenue back. Order the anchors deep enough that a mid-season top-up is a bonus, not a rescue.

Building the pastel and spring assortment
Easter is a color brief before it is a flavor brief. Stand ten feet back from your bins and squint. If the wall reads soft pink, pale yellow, mint, and light green, you have an Easter set. If it reads red and black, you have a Halloween set with a sign on it.
Pastel anchors
Lead with the products that are literally spring-colored. Pastel Fish is the most on-brief item we carry for this season: soft muted colors, a classic fish shape, and gelatin-free. Foam candy, or skum, is the softest-looking category in Swedish confectionery and photographs as pastel almost by default. Not every Easter buyer is filling a five-year-old's basket. Teens and adults buy for themselves during the same trip, and sour is what they reach for. S-Marke Sour Apple from S-Marke is gelatin-free and contains wheat and gluten, and its green tone still fits the spring palette. Sour Pineapple adds a bright yellow that is hard to get from any other item, and it is gelatin-free. Bulk bins carry the weight of the season, but the highest-margin Easter item on your counter is usually a small sealed bag. Parents building a basket want one or two "finished" things to sit on top of the loose candy, and gift shops selling to visiting relatives want something that can be handed over as-is.
